ALEX YEE BIOGRAPHY

ALEX YEE (Alexander Amos Yee) is a distance runner and triathlete, MBE, who competes for Great Britain. On February 18, 1998, he was born. He won the gold medal in the mixed relay triathlon on Saturday, July 31, 2021, and the silver medal in the men’s triathlon at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. At the 2022 Commonwealth Games, he also won the gold medal in the triathlon.

On June 4 at Avilés, Spain, Alex won the ITU World Junior Duathlon Championships.

ALEX YEE AWARDS

Later that month, he won bronze at the ITU World Cup in Weihai, China, marking his first and only podium appearance of 2018.
On March 8th, 2019, Alex competed in his first sprint triathlon as part of the ITU World Triathlon Series in Abu Dhabi. In a race with nine DNFs, he finished second to Mario Mola after a great swim, cycle, and second-fastest 5-kilometer run.

Despite being a nationally ranked runner, Alex reiterated in the lead-up to the competition that he saw himself as a triathlete first and foremost and expressed his desire to make the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Then, in Yokohama, Japan, he competed in his first ITU World Triathlon Series Standard Distance race, placing fifth overall.
Later that year, he went on to win a Gold in Nottingham’s Mixed Team Relay in June despite less-than-ideal weather, which forced the race’s format to be changed to a duathlon (run, bike, run).  Ben Dijkstra, Georgia Taylor-Brown, Sophie Coldwell, Yee, and the anchor leg secured the victory ahead of Switzerland in silver and France in bronze. Georgia Taylor-Brown won the first leg.

ALEX YEE ACHIEVEMENTS

Two months later, in Tokyo, Team GB won Silver in the same discipline, but Yee lost to France’s Dorian Coninx at the finish line on the last leg. Jess Learmonth, Gordon Benson, Sophie Coldwell, and Yee were added to the lineup from the Nottingham match for the final leg.
The team, which included Jess Learmonth, Jonny Brownlee, Georgia Taylor-Brown, and Yee on the final leg, had a dismal performance in Hamburg in July, finishing 10th overall. Team GB entered T1 in 15th place due to issues with Learmonth’s swim, and they were unable to make up the deficit on the following legs.

As an individual, Yee ended the season with a 13th-place showing at the Grand Final in Lausanne, Switzerland, and an overall ITU WTS ranking of 12th after accruing 2521 points from 5 events.

ALEX YEE  ITU

One of four male GB athletes, Yee began his 2020 racing season at the ITU World Cup race in Mooloolaba, Australia. He recorded the fastest run time of 14:55 but only finished in 37th position overall due to a mechanical before T2.
In addition to winning a gold medal in the mixed triathlon, where he was the team’s final athlete to cross the finish line, Lee also won a silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which were held in 2021.
