Dane Jackson Career

Because Cornell High School did not have a football team, he played high school football at Quaker Valley High School. Jackson was an all-state basketball player at Cornell. He committed to Pittsburgh on June 24, 2014, picking the Panthers over Bowling Green and Duquesne.

He switched from quarterback in high school and college to cornerback at Pitt. Dane spent his first year there as a redshirt rookie playing primarily as a reserve. However, during his sophomore, junior, and senior years, he started each game. He had 43 tackles as a senior, 12 pass breakups, three for a loss, an interception, and an assist in a sack. Dane also had an interception. He participated in the 2020 Senior Bowl after being chosen second-team all-Atlantic Coast during his senior season.

A Professional Career

He was chosen by the Buffalo Bills with the 239th overall pick in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He agreed to a four-year, $3.376 million contract with the Bills on May 7, 2020. On July 30, however, the team placed him on the reserve/COVID-19 list; a week later, he was activated. He was released on September 5, 2020, and the following day he was added to the practice squad. On October 13, 2020, he was added to the active roster and later demoted to the practice squad due to injuries to cornerbacks Leevi Wallace and Josh Norman.

He was added to the active roster on October 24 in time for the team’s Week 7 matchup against the New York Jets but was later moved back to the practice squad. He had three tackles, two passes defended, and one interception in a game the Bills won 18-10 against the Jets. Dane was upgraded once more on October 31, November 7, November 14, and January 2, 2021, for the team’s games against the Miami Dolphins, Seattle Seahawks, Arizona Cardinals, and New England Patriots in weeks 8, 9, and 10.

However, after each game, he was returned to the practice squad. He was promoted once again on January 15 and once more on January 23 for the divisional playoff game and the AFC Championship Game against the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs, respectively, before returning to the practice squad after each game. On January 26, 2021, Jackson finalized a reserves/futures contract with the Bills. On September 19, 2022, he played against the Tennessee Titans on Monday Night Football and suffered a catastrophic injury. He was taken from the field in an ambulance as a result, perhaps suffering from a head or neck injury.
