Joe joined NBC News in October 2013 as a West Coast correspondent. While on NBC, he covered some of the biggest events, including the devastating Oso mudslide, the Isla Vista shooting rampage, and deadly flooding in Colorado.
Prior to joining NBC, Joe served for KING5 News as a special project reporter. He primarily focuses on both in-depth reports and daily assignments that cover some of the region’s most important stories; the Skagit County bridge collapse, the Amanda Knox verdict, and the historic vote approving same-sex marriage.

Moreover, he traveled to Colorado with an aim of examining that state’s well-regulated medical marijuana industry. He also visited both San Francisco and Boston to witness what Washington can learn from other cities that did away with Viaduct-like structures along their waterfronts.
Fryer happened to have gone to the Northwest from Minnesota, which is his homeland. He spent almost six years at KARE-TV, which is the NBC affiliate in Minneapolis. Joe became the first reporter from his station of work on the incidence of the 35 W Bridge collapse in 2007. He also traveled to Phoenix to cover the sudden death of Minnesota Twins legend Kirby Puckett.
Fryer worked at WTVT-TV in Nashville, Tenn, WBAY-TV, in Green Bay, Wis., as well as at WKYT-TV in Lexington, Ky before moving to Minnesota.
