Bret began his journalism career as a reporter at WREX-TV in Rockford, Illinois, and later joined WRAL-TV in Raleigh, North Carolina. He also worked at WJWJ-TV. He joined Fox News in 1998 and was hired as Atlanta bureau chief in 1998. Bret worked as a Southeastern correspondent from 1998 to 2001.
