American journalist Brenda Blackmon is currently living in New York and works as an anchor. Together with Kaity Tong, she most recently co-anchored the PIX11 News weeknights at 6:30. Blackmon started anchoring for the station in 2016. At WWOR-TV in New York, she co-anchored with Rolland Smith, Ernie Anastos, Sean Mooney, and eventually Harry Martin. Before relocating to New York City, Blackmon worked in Nashville, Tennessee, and Columbus, Georgia, where she was the city’s first black anchor. Before starting a journalism career, Brenda was a plus-size model.

She earned honorary doctorates from Fairleigh Dickinson University and Caldwell College and a B.A. with high honors. Fairleigh Dickinson University was also awarded an MPA. She now serves on the Fairleigh Dickinson University Board of Trustees. Brenda has been nominated for 15 Emmy Awards and has won four of them. Blackmon received a broadcasting award from McDonald’s in 2010, and WWOR gave her a special homage.

Brenda has earned more than a dozen Associated Press Awards in addition to two Edward R. Murrow Awards for Broadcast Excellence and her city was voted “One of the Most Influential Cities of the Century.” Blackmon is active in the neighborhood. On December 8, 2015, WPIX also revealed the hiring of Blackmon to co-anchor their new daily 6:30 pm newscast with Kaity Tong. The station welcomed Blackmon on January 11, 2016. On September 9, however, she left after the newscast was postponed.
