Karol G Biography
Who Is Karol G? A prominent figure in urban music, which encompasses reggaeton, Latin trap, and Spanish-language hip-hop, is Karol G. She also combines pop and R&B into her music. Karol first had difficulties in the male-dominated reggaeton music industry as a female performer. She sang backing and traveled around to perform at small venues and festivals to help her career take off. By doing this, she connected with other musicians who would later work with her, including Ovy on the Drums, who would later produce a lot of her music. Unstoppable (2017), Ocean (2019), and KG0516 are Karol’s albums (2021). She has collaborated with artists like J Balvin, Nicki Minaj, and the Jonas Brothers, and some of her hit songs include “Tusa,” “Bichota,” and “Mamii.” Karol was the first female reggaeton performer to appear at Colombia’s Estadio Atanasio Giradot and has headlined a tour in North America.
How old is Karol G?
On February 14, 1991, Carolina Giraldo Navarro was born in Medellin, Colombia. She has lived for 33 years as of 2024.
Early Life and Education
Karol grew up listening to music such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Spice Girls, Bee Gees, and Thalia. She performed alongside her musician father Juan Guillermo Giraldo. Karol attended the University of Antioquia to study music.
Music Career
Karol said to the Los Angeles Times in 2021 that “Latin America already had a very big reggaeton movement when I began recording music there in 2006. The music I adored listening to was the music I wanted to create.” Karol made an appearance on “El Factor X,” Colombia’s version of “The X-Factor,” as a youngster. She signed a contract with a Puerto Rican label in 2007. That same year saw the release of her debut single. She struggled to succeed as a female reggaeton musician, though, because the genre was dominated by male stars.
Karol met with a different label in Miami sometime in 2010, following her father’s purchase of her initial contract. Although they valued her work, the label was unwilling to sign her. “They suggested that I might make a good songwriter, but a woman producing reggaeton? This wouldn’t function.”
A side effect of Karol pursuing a singing career was that she started to get unwanted sexual advances. Karol relocated to New York since her career was not progressing as she had intended. She was there when a Subway advertisement rekindled her passion for music and motivated her to travel to Boston for a music industry convention. Karol traveled back to Colombia and set up a home studio to record her own music. She continued to act wherever she could get work.
Prominence & Success in Music
In 2016, Karol agreed to a deal with Universal Music Latino. Her international profile was enhanced by her collaboration with Bad Bunny on “Ahora Me Llama” (“Now He Calls Me,” 2017).
