Kirsty Wark, as she is commonly known, is a Scottish television presenter who has had a long career at the BBC. Her perceived closeness to Labour Party figures and powerful, searching interview style have always sparked controversy. Kirsty was the BAFTA Scotland journalist of the year in 1993 and, in 1997, the Best Television Presenter.

In 1976, graduate researcher Wark joined BBC Radio Scotland. All it took was one year of hard work and she was promoted to producer of Good Morning Scotland, a current affairs programme. In 1982, she switched to television, producing the lunchtime political programme, Agenda, Reporting Scotland, and Current Account. Afterwards, she began presenting Seven Days, Left, Right and Centre, Reporting Scotland and Scottish questions for BBC Scotland, then moved into the Breakfast Time, presenting team. The Lockerbie disaster was first covered by her in 1988. Her production company wark Clements & Co produced many programmes in the 1990s including Restless Nation, Building a Nation, Words with Wark and Lives Less Ordinary.

She was one of the presenters who covered the 2021 UK election results alongside Huw Ewards. On October 19, 2023, BBC announced that Wark, who had been presenting Newsnight since 1993, would stand down after the next general election.

The University of St Andrews awarded her a Doctor of Letters (DLitt) in June 2023 for her outstanding journalism career. Wark was the BAFTA Scotland journalist of the year in 1993 and Best Television Presenter in 1997. She was on the list of the fifty best dressed over 50s list made by The Guardian in March 2013. The same month, four years later, she was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.

Kirsty has always been controversial in her way of conducting interviews, the most recent being when she interviewed Zomlot, the head of the Palestinian Mission to the United Kingdom. After Zomlot described how six of his family members lost their lives in the Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, Wark reacted by saying that there was no way anyone could condone the killing of civilians in Israel.
