Famous American meteorologist M. J. McDermott is currently a morning meteorologist at Q13 News, the FOX station in Seattle, Washington, where she has been nominated for numerous Emmys. She graduated with a degree in atmospheric sciences from the University of Washington. She is the first female broadcast meteorologist to win the annual forecasting competition at the University of Washington.

McDermott worked at North Seattle College for years while earning her prerequisite before enrolling at the U.W. She won an Emmy for co-hosting “Rosco T. Racoon” on KSTW’s children’s television program before she became a meteorologist.

McDermott participated in a group called Where’s the Math? that promoted effective math instruction in Washington State’s public schools, served as president of the PTA and served on the board of the Seattle Children’s Theatre. Additionally, she teaches algebra at Ingraham High School.
