Ashley Nicolle Simpson was born in Waco, Texas on October 3, 1984. Tina Ann Simpson is the daughter of Joseph Truett “Joe” Simpson, a former psychologist and Baptist youth minister. Jessica Simpson, her older sister, is her only sibling. Both of them received their primary schooling at Prairie Creek Elementary and North Junior High in Richardson, Texas, where the sisters grew up. Ashlee began studying classical ballet when she was three years old. When she was eleven years old, she also attended the School of American Ballet in New York City. In the year 1999, the Simpson family relocated to Los Angeles, California, where Jessica continued her music career.

Simpson appeared in an episode of Malcolm in the Middle as a guest star. In the same year, Simpson appeared as Monique in the Rob Schneider comedy film The Hot Chick, which was released in 2002. Ashlee also recorded a song called “Christmas Past, Present, and Future” for the holiday album School’s Out! Christmas the following year.
