Carrie Bickmore OAM was born in Adelaide, South Australia, but her family relocated to Perth, Western Australia, during her childhood. She received her education at Perth College, an Anglican school girls’ school, before enrolling at Curtin University of Technology, where she pursued a journalism degree. Upon completing her studies in 2000, she relocated to Melbourne, Victoria, in 2001 to embark on a media career.

Carrie initially started her professional journey in the media industry as a news reader on Perth’s 92.9FM. This opportunity arose unexpectedly when she was asked to fill in for a colleague who was unwell. During that time, Brian, her father, held a job as a radio announcer and later assumed executive roles at the Austereo network. Eventually, Carrie was promoted to a full-time news reader position at the station. In 2001, She made the move to Melbourne and became the afternoon newsreader for Nova radio station.
