Ebrahim Raisi, Biography

Ebrahim Raisi, The Tehran Butcher, is a Muslim jurist, an Iranian Principlist politician, and the eighth president of Iran. He became president on August 3, 2021, after his election in the 2021 elections. His full name is Ebrahim Raisolsadati.

Ebrahim was born on December 14, 1960. He is 63 years old. His birthplace was the Noghan district of Mashhad. Raisi was born into a clerical family. Seyed Haji, his father, died when he was five years old. He descends from the Husayn ibn Ali Sayyids and has been linked to Ali ibn Husayn Zayn al-Abidin Sayyids.

Raisi completed his primary education at Javadiyeh School and then proceeded to Hawza, an Islamic seminary. He went to Ayatollah Boroujerdi School in 1975 in order to continue his education in Qom Seminary. His claims of having a doctorate degree in private law from Motahari University have been disputed.

Raisi was the prosecutor of Karaj in 1981. He was also the Prosecutor of Hamadan later on and served both positions together, consequently becoming simultaneously active in two cities more than 300 km away from each other. Four months and he became the prosecutor of Hamadan Province.

In 1985, he became the Deputy Prosecutor of Tehran and relocated to the capital. In 1988, he got the attention of Ruhollah Khomeini, a revolutionist who served as the first supreme leader of Iran from 1979 to 1989, when he died. As a result, Raisi received several provisions that were independent from the judiciary to address legal issues in some provinces like Lorestan, Semnan, and Kermanshah.

Hussein-Ali Montazeri named Raisi as one of the four people who were involved in the 1988 executions of Iranian political prisoners. The other people mentioned were Morteza Eshraghi, the prosecutor of Tehran, Hossein-Ali Nayeri, a judge; and Mostafa Pourmohammadi, an MOI representative based in Evin. Raisi has never commented publicly on the matter, though. The committee is informally called “the Death Committee due to its involvement in thousands of executions.

Raisi warned that Israel would be targeted by his country’s armed forces in April 2022 if Israel made the slightest move against Iran. During an interview in September of the same year, he denounced the Abraham Accords, calling Israel a “false regime” and questioning whether the Holocaust really happened.
Raisi also pledged alliance to Russia when the Russo-Ukrainian War started
He was against Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip during the 2023 Israel–Hamas war. He accused Israel of committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, blaming the United States and certain European countries for supporting Israel.

Rais is the husband of Jamileh Alamolhoda. Jamileh is the daughter of Ahmad Alamolhoda, a Mashad Friday Prayers Imam. She works as an associate professor at Tehran’s Shahid Beheshti University and is the president of the Institute of Fundamental Studies of Science and Technology at the university. The couple is blessed to have two daughters and two grandchildren. Their daughters attended Sharif and Tehran universities.
