American professional basketball player Evan Mobley, who plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers of the National Basketball Association, was born on June 18, 2001. (NBA). The Cleveland Cavaliers picked him third overall in the 2021 NBA Draft while he was a collegiate basketball player for the USC Trojans.

Mobley averaged 19.2 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 4.7 blocks per game as a junior at Rancho Christian. Both The Press-Enterprise and California Gatorade named him player of the year.  Mobley helped Rancho Christian to a 22-8 record during his senior year by averaging 20.5 points, 12.2 rebounds, 5.2 blocks, and 4.6 assists per game.

He joined Jrue Holiday as the only two-time winner of the California Gatorade Player of the Year award when he won it again.   The Morgan Wootten National Player of the Year award went to Mobley.  He was also chosen to participate in the McDonald’s All-American Game, Jordan Brand Classic, and Nike Hoop Summit, but the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of all three events.
Mobley was rated as a five-star prospect by the majority of analysts, one of the top three prospects in the 2020 recruiting class, and briefly in front of Cade Cunningham. On August 5, 2019, he chose USC over offers from Washington, UCLA, and other top NCAA Division I universities to play college basketball. One of the top players to sign up for the program was Mobley.

Mobley made his college debut for USC on November 25, 2020, scoring 21 points and grabbing nine rebounds in a 95-87 victory over California Baptist in overtime. He recorded a career-high 26 points, nine rebounds, and five blocks in a 91-85 double-overtime victory over Utah on March 11, 2021, in the Pac-12 Tournament quarterfinals. Mobley scored 26 points for a second time, grabbed nine rebounds, and had five blocks in Colorado’s 72-70 semifinal defeat. He had 16.4 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2.8 blocks, and 2.4 assists a game as a rookie.

Mobley received awards for Freshman of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and Player of the Year in the Pac-12. He joined Anthony Davis of the Southeastern Conference in 2012 as the second player from a major conference to earn the three prizes. Mobley sent a notice to enter the NBA draft on April 16, 2021, forfeiting his remaining college eligibility. Many believed that Mobley, behind Cade Cunningham, was the NBA draft’s second-best prospect for 2021.

EVAN MOBLEY CAREER

The Cleveland Cavaliers choose Mobley third overall in the 2021 NBA Draft.  He signed a contract with the Cavaliers on August 3, 2021. Mobley made his summer league debut on August 8, 2021, in an 84-76 loss to the Houston Rockets, with 12 points, five rebounds, and three blocks in 28 minutes.  On October 20, he played in his first NBA game, losing to the Memphis Grizzlies 132-121 while scoring 17 points, grabbing nine rebounds, and dishing out six assists.  Mobley strained his right elbow on November 15 during a 98-92 loss to the Boston Celtics.  He received the NBA Eastern Rookie of the Month award for games played in October and November.  Since LeBron James in March, Mobley became the first rookie in Cleveland on December 8.

Mobley finished the season averaging 15.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.7 blocks, and.8 steals per game while shooting.508,.250, and.663 from the field, the three-point arc, and the free throw line, respectively, on 33.8 minutes per game. He started all 69 of the games he participated in. He ranked seventh in terms of points per game but was first among rookies in terms of rebounds and blocks. Scottie Barnes of the Toronto Raptors was the second-best rookie (in terms of win shares, with 5.2), and value over replacement player (1.5). Mobley took Cleveland from having the sixth-worst defense in the league and a winning percentage of.306 to have the fifth-best defense in the league for efficiency under the direction of All-Star center Jarrett Allen.
Fellow Cavalier Darius Garland described Mobley to Rob Mahoney of The Ringer as follows: “He provides for us in every way. offensively and defensively. A 7-foot-tall unicorn, he is.”  Mobley came in second place behind Scottie Barnes in the voting for NBA Rookie of the Year. Since the award’s voting method started in 2002-2003, the 15-point gap was the narrowest voting margin in 19 years.
